over the hill Co-op Progress: Checkpoints & Unlocks

over the hill / Windows PC / Windows PC launch release (October 2026)

In over the hill online co-op, progress is tracked individually. Every player must reach the relevant checkpoint themselves to complete an objective, even when friends help with recovery or drive beside them. Completed objectives carry between single player and multiplayer. The game supports up to four players in total; local co-op is not part of the current stated feature set.

A shared journey does not mean one driver's checkpoint automatically completes it for the whole group.

Why did your friend’s unlock not appear for you?

Section titled “Why did your friend’s unlock not appear for you?”

Standing near a friend when they rescue a car or complete a route is not enough to establish your own completion. A launch player reported exactly this at the first lake. The developer’s progress rule explains the distinction: you can help one another reach an objective, but each player needs their own checkpoint credit.

This rule does not establish that every activity awards the same vehicle to every player, or that one specific rescue guarantees a particular model. Check your own completed objective and garage separately.

  1. Agree on the same challenge or destination before leaving the cabin. Being in the same multiplayer session does not mean everyone is following the same personal objective.
  2. Move through the route with each driver reaching the required checkpoints. Let the trailing driver catch up before the group leaves the area.
  3. If someone becomes stranded, use towing or recovery equipment to get their own vehicle back on the route.
  4. At the finish, each player checks their own objective completion. A teammate’s notification is not a substitute for your own.
  5. Check each garage separately for a vehicle reward. If one player has no completion credit, review that player’s checkpoint path before replaying the whole group’s route.

Saved progress and completed objectives transfer between solo and multiplayer. You do not need to remain in the original group to continue exploring. This is continuity of your saved progress, not a promise that another driver’s unlocks are copied into your save.

The checklist stays in this page only. It does not read, save or modify game progress.

The individually tracked progress rule does not answer whether the current build offers a public server browser, quick matchmaking, or a particular voice-chat mode. Do not buy or organise a session on the assumption that these features are confirmed here. Local split-screen should not be confused with four-player online co-op.

For a specific vehicle task, use the Niva-like car route in Gimli Ridge, and have every driver verify their own completion.
